Flatbed Scanners

Installing Ubuntu with a Flatbed Scanner

This should be one of the easiest jobs you need to do in any Linux Operating System, sadly it is certainly involved if not complex. We have found trawling through the Internet as you do various solutions to setting up a scanner when all anyone actually wants is a straight forward plug and go or simple setup sequence or script. Sane and Xsane are fantastic applications when they work with the hardware purchased.

SoSLUG as a User Group deals to a large extent with redundant equipment that people or companies no longer require or want and as such we try to install hardware that is lets say past it's sell by date and try to get it to work.

Because each scanner is different we are in the process of setting up a HCL (Hardware Compatibility List) with support documentation to help you install a scanner on the Ubuntu Linux OS. Sadly it is beyond our meager resources to provide scanner install solutions to all variants of the Linux OS, but should you have a contribution you think others could benefit from, I am happy format your solution to this website or you can post this directly to our new wiki site at wiki.soslug.org provide you with an account to add your own content.
